The Vocal Arts Ensemble of Cincinnati (VAE) is pleased to announce that following an extensive national search, conductor Donald Nally will become the organization's next Music Director. Nally is a highly respected and experienced conductor with an international reputation. Nally serves as the Chorus Master of Lyric Opera of Chicago where he recently led the first 'chorus-only' concert in the company's 54-year history to rave reviews.
A few words from Nally: 'To say it is an honor and a privilege to be asked to collaborate regularly with this great ensemble, in a city known for its rich choral history, demonstrates the weakness of words. I'm unable to find the correct word - a word of "humble exhilaration" - to describe my excitement at inheriting this responsibility from two former teachers (Drs. Thomas and Rivers), who made such a mark with this choir. But, that's why there is music; when words fail, we turn to it, and that's exactly what we will do together next Fall when we set out on a new path with the extraordinary support of our board and staff, and introduce our audiences to a wide variety of music of today - music written for and in this time, by those compositional voices capturing and describing our contemporary emotions. After our great collaboration this October, I know that we - the ensemble, our audience, the cultural community, the city - are going to have a fascinating and rewarding journey.'
